"SeaWeCan's" 2010 Completion of the Circumnavigation of the Great Lakes to assist Disabled Sailor Organizations
The good ship "LaVida" began her circumnavigation of the Great Lakes, in 2009, sailing from Olcott, NY to Schooner Bay, WI and covered 1839 nautical miles in the process. Along the way she and her crews promoted the funding of disadvantaged sailing organizations. We met many fine people, witnessed many sailors making pledges of faith to their favorite organizations. All that and scenery that was out of this world.
In the spring of 2010 "LaVida" continued her two year voyage from Schooner Bay, WI and return to Isle Royale and then ventured into the Northern reaches of Lake Superior and transited down the Northern shore of Lake Superior, Eastern shore of Michigan, South shore of Lake Erie and the South shore of Lake Ontario, eventually returning to our home port of Olcott, NY, by summers end.
If the 2009 voyage was awesome, the 2010 voyage was beyond words. I was so happy to find hundreds of nautical miles of unspoiled wilderness, coastal areas and thick forests along the North Shore of Lake Superior. Its a place I need to return to.
09/01/10 - We are please to announce our arrival in our homeport safe and sound. The voyage was an awesome success.
I want to thank all the members of my crew: Dave C, Monty, Jim M, Sharon F, Ed H, Sue N, Mike M and J.J. for all their help. John D, Paul D, Larry and Jan and the many other folks who made pledges, THANK YOU!!
Photos of the trip will follow in a bit, we took over 12,400 pictures in the two year voyage. Takes a lot of shifting through.
